It’s now been confirmed that Antonio Rudiger will leave Chelsea at the end of this season, meaning a major scramble to replace one of the division’s top defenders this summer.
The Evening Standard have already outlined the Blues’ two top targets to replace him: Wesley Fofana of Leicester and Jules Kounde of Sevilla.
Chelsea have long standing links with both of them, and neither is a new name on the radar. At this point, you’d think the club has seen plenty of each, enough to be convinced of their quality, and the only question marks are over organising a deal with their respective clubs.
Fofana is an interesting case after he missed the majority of the season with an injury. He’s been back for a month or so now, but there aren’t many games for him to convince any Chelsea scouts that he’s still the player they thought he was a year ago.
Kounde has also had something of a disappointing season, but is still considered one of the top options in the world in his position.
