Bayern Munich tipped to make Chelsea transfer raid as Thomas Tuchel headache grows

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen looks set to be leaving the club in the summer.

The 25-year-old’s current contract with the Blues expires in June and it doesn’t look likely at this stage that the Denmark international will be committing his future at west London for the foreseeable future.

The defender, who spent two years on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, was a key performer for Chelsea throughout 2021 but has featured less often recently, with Thomas Tuchel admitting that the standoff over his contract had affected Christensen’s playing time.

A whole host of clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring his signature, one of which is Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany.

But like others, they also are currently struggling to agree on a suitable financial package that suits all parties.

Sky Germany claim that Christensen is on €5million (£4.2million) per year right now, and that Chelsea have offered him a rise to €7.5million (£6.2million), but that he wants €10million (£8.3million).

Whilst Christensen certainly is in a very favourable position in being a free agent come the end of June, he is potentially at risk of pricing himself out of a move to a top European club if he doesn’t lower his wage demands.

Bayern Munich’s interest in the player seems to have come because of Niklas Sule’s decision to leave the club.

The German international is unlikely to be short of suitors in the summer and given the fact that Chelsea will be forced to strengthen their backline, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger both out of contract come the end of the 2021/2022 season, perhaps the Blues will be interested in acquiring the 26-year-old’s attractive profile.
