‘Yes please’, ‘Worth it for his pace’: Some Chelsea fans urge Tuchel to start 25-year-old in tonight’s game

Chelsea travel to Tottenham tonight to conclude their Carabao Cup semi-final tie – and some Blues fans on Twitter claim they want Timo Werner to be named in the starting XI.

The Blues currently hold a two-goal aggregate lead in the semi-final after beating Spurs 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last week in the first leg. Kai Havertz’s opener, along with a Ben Davies own goal, put Chelsea in control of the contest.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are certainly favourites to reach the final, but will need to avoid complacency on their short trip across London to face Antonio Conte’s Spurs this evening.

Chelsea fans ask for Werner

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media have claimed in the build-up to Wednesday night’s game that they want Werner in the starting line-up.

The 25-year-old started and scored in a 5-1 FA Cup win for the Blues at the weekend against non-league Chesterfield. However, he was used as an impact substitute in the first leg against Spurs.

He’s a German attacker renowned for his energy and speed, something which can really hurt opponents.

His recent return from Covid-19 needs to be factored in and he’s not played a lot of football in the last couple of months. Therefore, it could be a risk using him from the start once again tonight.

He’s competing with teammates such as Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku for the starting attacking positions.

Werner, praised by Ian Wright last month, still has a massive point to prove to both fans and the manager.
