Sergino Dest to Chelsea transfer: Barcelona stance, £16m price named, Cesar Azpilicueta impact

The January transfer window is just under a week old and despite a number of names having already been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are yet to kick-off their winter business.

That could be soon set to change though, with reports emerging that the Blues are pursuing a deal for Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest.

Having been at the Camp Nou since a 2020 move from Ajax, the USMNT international now sees his future looking uncertain considering that Catalan giants’ poor financial situation, whilst they are also attempting to shift members of their current squad in order to register former Manchester City man Ferran Torres.

That could leave Chelsea in a prime position to seal the signing of Dest ahead of deadline day and with that being said, takes a look at the latest in the future of the American defender.

Chelsea eye Dest move

The links to Dest started to emerge ahead of the January transfer window opening.

According to the Daily Express in December, it was suggested that the Blues were ‘considering’ a £30m move following the major injury sustained by Ben Chilwell.

It was also claimed that the return of Brazilian icon Dani Alves had put Dest’s position at the Camp Nou under scrutiny.

Blues up pursuit as price named

With the window opening over recent days, the Blues could be set to intensify their pursuit of the former Ajax man.

As per Spanish outlet SPORT, Chelsea have gone ‘all out’ to recruit the American international, with a conservative price of €20m (£16.7m) having been on his head.

It remains to be seen whether the west Londoners would be willing to secure a deal for Dest though.

Dest makes transfer decision

Sticking with the reports in Spain, it does not appear that the full-back himself would be willing to quit the Camp Nou.

It is suggested that he is not contemplating a January move as he is convinced that he could be a key player for Barcelona throughout the second half of the season.

Whether that remains the case should the Catalans choose to sell is an intriguing prospect.

Azpilicueta impact

One man who could have a say on the future of Dest could well be current Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Spaniard has been linked with a move to both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid amid his expiring deal. Should he move to the Camp Nou, it might appear that the Catalans would be more willing to sell Dest but should a move to the Wanda Metropolitano come to fruition then it might be unlikely that Barcelona would be willing to move Dest on without further options.
