Following a goalless draw at Wolves, the Blues will be third in the Premier League table at Christmas, six points behind leaders Manchester City.
It was a disappointing result following a spirited performance but all the headlines surrounding the game were centred around the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, and the decision made for the game to go ahead in the first place.
It was revealed before kick-off that Chelsea had asked the Premier League to postpone the game after eight players in the Blues’ camp tested positive for coronavirus, but the league’s organisers denied the request, much to the ire of the club and Thomas Tuchel.
An emergency meeting between all 20 top-flight clubs has now been scheduled for 1pm today which could lead to a round of festive fixtures getting cancelled in order to try and prevent the spread of the virus and postponement of any more games.
We will have all the latest on that plus all the usual transfer rumours and gossip with the January transfer window just under a fortnight away.
So sit back and let football.london bring you all the latest news and rumours from Stamford Bridge.
- Gavi close to penning new deal
Chelsea target Gavi appears to be closing in on a new deal with Barcelona.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the midfielder will sign fresh terms with the Catalan giants for five years, with the release clause also being removed from his contract.
The ‘signing’ stage appears to not be far away at all.
- Howard puzzled at Tuchel decision
Former Premier League goalkeeper Tim Howard has suggested he was left confused as to why Reece James was not deployed in midfield for Sunday’s clash with Wolves.
Speaking to NBC, he said: When I initially looked at the team sheet, I thought Reece James would go into the centre of midfield next to (N’Golo) Kante.
“In fact, I actually thought Tuchel got that wrong because you could put Chalobah as one of the centre-backs, get (Cesar) Azpilicueta out to the wing-back and put Reece James in that holding midfield role, where he has played before.”
- Tuchel eyes Ruben Neves
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly requested for the Blues to make a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.
According to Todofichajes, the German has lost patience with on-loan Saul Niguez and wants the Blues to secure a move for the former FC Porto captain.
