What Mason Mount has said after Chelsea’s 3-2 Premier League defeat against West Ham

The attacking midfielder had a strong game in the London derby despite seeing his team fall to a shock defeat in the Premier League.

Chelsea’s star Mason Mount has demanded that his teammates keep the ‘focus’ and ‘mentality’ ahead of a potential immediate reaction to the 3-2 West Ham loss.

Mount, 22, once again showed Blues fans why he is one of the most important players in their attack with his ‘goal of the season’ contender as described on BT Sport’s commentary and assist that he picked up at the London Stadium.

However, Jarrod Bowen’s goal out of nothing coupled with Arthur Masuaku’s freakish goal meant that all the focus didn’t end up on the Ballon d’Or contender come the final whistle.

“I didn’t see our performance dip against Man United or today,” Thomas Tuchel said in his post-match press conference on his sides most recent showings.

“I think the performance is enough to even win the game but what we clearly see is we give easy goals away and this is very unusual.

“We make big mistakes that lead to big chances that lead to easy goals. We do this now in three matchdays against Man United, Watford and again today. If you do this at this kind of level, you can’t expect to have a result.”

Nonetheless, Mount’s well taken goal was praised by Joe Cole who was waxing lyrical of the technique shown by the England international on the stroke of half-time to put Chelsea 2-1 up.

“Normally you go laces on this one. But, the way he took it was brilliant,” Cole said on BT Sport when analysing the goal.

“Normally you straighten the ankle and it’s much easier to execute. It was a difficult technicality.”

It wasn’t to be for Mount and Chelsea in game week 15 of this crazy 2021/22 Premier League season and the player in question, along with others like Jorginho, have tried to ease the blues that Chelsea fans are currently feeling after the recent results that have gone against them.

Liverpool showed their title credentials with the late winner Divock Origi scored against Wolves- a result that takes them above Tuchel’s men in the standings.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are now top of the table after they secured all three points with a comfortable 3-1 victory away to Watford in the late kick-off.

Despite Chelsea now dropping to third after those other results, all attention will now turn to the Zenit game on Wednesday as a big reaction is now expected from the west London faithful who have had to endure a disappointing weekend of football.

He tweeted on @masonmount_10: ‘Focus and mentality remains the same, let’s get back to it on Wednesday.’

Mount then added some more reaction with what he said to the BBC regarding a question about fatigue in the squad being thrown his way.

“A lot of games, it can take a toll, but that’s not an excuse we can use – we come out here and want to win, it’s a derby. We don’t concede many, so that is something we need to look at,” Mount said.

“It is mistakes we haven’t made, tired minds, tired bodies, but we need to keep the standard high. We regroup and come back next game.”

Declan Rice’s best friend scored an impressive 9 out 10 in football.london’s ratings from the early kick off between the two London rivals.

Chelsea fans will be hoping he stays fit and continues to shine as they look to impress against Zenit on Wednesday and return to winning ways on the domestic front when they take on Leeds in the Premier League on 11th December.
